For more than seven decades The English Institute has been a major resource for developments in criticism, theory, and scholarship, while honoring traditional fields of interest and modes of literary analysis.

The 74th annual meeting will take place Friday Afternoon

, Sept. 18, 2:00 p.m. through Sunday, Sept. 20 1:15 p.m. with an itinerary to include:

“Cutting a Figure” Jeff Dolven, Princeton University; “The Figure, in Two, Three, and Four Dimensions” Christopher S. Wood; “Compulsory Figures” Arthur Bahr, MIT; “Figuring Blackness in a Place without Race” Monica L. Miller, Bernard College; “Figuring the Facade” Anthony Vidler, The Cooper Union and Yale; Group discussion of Erich Auerbach’s “Figura”
discussion led by Sandra Macpherson, The Ohio State University; “Form or Figure?” Anahid Nersessian, UCLA; “Figures in Excess, or the Matter of Inversion (On the Sublime)” Ian Balfour, York University; followed by a Roundtable of all conference speakers.
