The Renaissance Colloquium, in partnership with the Center for Historical Enquiry & the Social Sciences (CHESS), will be hosting a presentation by Professor John Watkins (University of Minnesota) on Thursday, 23 April.

Professor Watkins is the author of several books and numerous articles dealing with problems of historiography; cultural, political and economic exchanges between England and the Mediterranean; and the medieval underpinnings of early modernity: The Specter of Dido: Spenser and Virgilian Epic (Yale); Representing Elizabeth in Stuart England (Cambridge); and with historian Carole Levin, Shakespeare’s Foreign Worlds: National and Transnational Identity in the Elizabethan Age.

Professor Watkins will be delivering a talk on “Divas and Diplomacy in Seventeenth-Century France” in Room 208 of the Whitney Humanities Center (53 Wall St.) from 12:30pm to 2:00pm. Lunch will be served at 12:00pm. We look forward to seeing you all there!
