When to Arrive

Please note that most major area airports are between two and five hours from New Haven via shuttle bus, train or car. It is best to plan to arrive at these airports in the early morning to early afternoon.

Airports

New Haven is served by local Tweed New Haven Regional Airport (HVN), Bradley International Airport (BDL) in Hartford/Springfield, CT; New York area airports LaGuardia International Airport (LGA), JFK International Airport, and Newark International Airport (EWR) in Newark, NJ; Logan International Airport (BOS) in Boston, MA; and T.F. Green International Airport (PVD) in Providence, RI. Connecticut Limousine and Prime Time Shuttle provide economical ground transportation from airports in Connecticut, New York and New Jersey to locations in downtown New Haven. Please contact the carrier for schedules and fares (shuttles typically run every 30 to 60 minutes from the airports). Students with little luggage might consider taking a bus from New York City airports to Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan, where they can then take the Metro North Railroad to New Haven. In addition, students traveling through Newark Airport can take the Air Train to the Newark International Airport stop on the New Jersey Transit railroad line into Penn Station in Manhattan. From there they can connect to an Amtrak train to New Haven or take the subway to Grand Central Terminal for Metro North train service to New Haven. We do NOT recommend that students take a taxi to New Haven from BDL, JFK, LGA or EWR as it would be very expensive.

Train service

New Haven is served by Amtrak, Metro North and Shoreline East train service, arriving at Union Station. Taxis are available at the taxi stand outside the station. It is approximately a $5 to $10 ride to central campus. The Yale University nighttime minibus and daytime shuttle serve Union station.

Bus service

Long distance bus companies with service to New Haven include Greyhound and Peter Pan Bus Lines. Buses arrive and depart from Union Station, where taxis are readily available for travel to campus.

Taxi service

Taxi Cab stands with regular cab service can be found at Tweed Airport, Union Station, the CT Limo terminal, and at the larger downtown hotels. Scheduled pickIups in New Haven should be arranged by phone in advance. Cabs run on a meter basis. By law, passengers with a common destination should not be charged extra (two or three people pay the same price as one).
