Cedrick May: “Essay on Slavery”

Thursday, February 21 at 11:45, Beinecke Library, 121 Wall St. The Americanist Colloquium and the African-American Studies Department present a discussion with Professor Cedrick May in the Beinecke seminar room, from 11:45-1:15.  Professor May will discuss his recent archival discoveries, including an unknown and unpublished manuscript poem by Jupiter Hammon, as well as new biographical information about the author.  The manuscript, titled “Essay on Slavery,” will be made available for the session through the support of Manuscripts and Archives as well as the Beinecke.  Cedrick May is Associate Professor of English at the University of Texas, Arlington, and the author of Evangelism and Resistance in the Black Atlantic, 1760-1835 (2008).
