Danielle Chapman interviewed in CT Magazine for her latest book “Holler”

“Why remember?” Danielle Chapman asks in her memoir Holler: A Poet Among Patriots. “Why dredge things up? Why go into all of that again?”

She notes that sometimes our memories are so painful we hope to stop remembering them. (She certainly has a formative one). 

“But, as a poet,” she writes, “this often puts me in a bind. Because I believe in my memories, as if they were articles of faith; that they rivet me for a reason; that, if tested rigorously enough, they will yield some meaning bigger than themselves, and maybe even the truth.”
