Event description:
This talk will begin by noting the centrality of the question of worker mobility to utopian imaginings since Thomas More. It will then take a somewhat closer look at this theme in writing pertaining to the utopian projects of the Soviet Union and in more recent writing by Fredric Jameson and Jacques Rancière. Finally, it will use Chang Rae Lee’s 2014 novel, On Such a Full Sea, to focus a consideration of the contemporary fate of the figure of the utopian worker-in-motion.
