Welcome to English at Yale!
We are excited to share with you the opportunities offered by our classes and our major. To that end, we will be hosting two information sessions in August.
On August 10th from 2.00-3.30 PM ET, there will be a session devoted to describing our Introductory Course offerings, both the classes geared toward incoming first-years and those that serve as foundational courses for our major. The DUS and ADUS will open the session with a general overview of the options. This introduction will be followed by a group of simultaneous sessions hosted by the directors for each course: students are invited to jump as they desire from session to session, so they can ask questions specific to the different courses and get a sense of the wide range of choices we provide.
If a conflict prevents your joining this session and you have questions about our introductory course, feel free to email or make an appointment with the DUS or ADUS.
On August 24th from 2.00-3.30 p.m., we will host a Welcome to Fall session, intended for both returning majors and students considering the English major. Again, the DUS, ADUS, and Director of Creative Writing (DCW) will be present to answer questions.
Because almost all of our teaching happens in small seminars, we encourage you to attend the relevant sessions: they should help you to navigate the preference selection process and give you a sense of how our courses have been adapted to the online environment. We feel lucky that even in this environment, our modes of instruction will allow students and teachers to form genuine communities of inquiry around the texts that we read together. We look forward to getting to know you!
