New Students

Welcome to English at Yale!

We are excited to share with you the opportunities offered by our classes and our major.

Current English majors and all students interested in the English major are invited to attend the department’s annual information meeting on Friday, November 7, 12:00-1:00pm in LC 319. Questions will be answered; pizza will be served.

If you missed our information session on Monday, August 11, you may click the link above to view a recording in which the DUS, ADUS, and course directors provide answers to frequently asked questions about English introductory courses.

If you have any questions not addressed in the video, please feel free to reach out to us!

We also encourage you to visit our table at the Academic Fair on August 25, 9:30-11:00pm in the Schwarzman Center. The DUS, ADUS, and Director of Creative Writing (DCW) will be on hand to answer all your questions about particular English courses, the English Major, and the Writing Concentration.

Because almost all of our teaching happens in small seminars, we encourage you to attend the relevant sessions: they should help you to navigate the preference selection process among our many options.  We look forward to getting to know you!
