Event description:

This event has been cancelled.

This critical/creative workshop has two components, led by novelist Catherine Fox and Dr. Ellie Byrne, both Master’s level creative writing instructors in children’s literature. The first part considers the role of the cautionary tale in the canon of writing for children, with special reference to the influence of author Roald Dahl’s fiction on contemporary writing trends. This will set the stage for a creative writing workshop where students will be guided to produce their own cautionary tales.

Dr. Catherine Wilcox, whose pen name is Catherine Fox, is a senior lecturer in creative writing at Manchester Metropolitan University. She is the author of eight novels that explore themes of the spiritual and physical with insight and humor. Her Lindchester Chronicles are published by Marylebone House/SPCK.

Dr. Ellie Byrne is a Senior Lecturer in English at Manchester Metropolitan University, specializing in Postcolonial literature and theory, nineteenth and twentieth century English literature, African and Caribbean writing, Black British writing and film, Critical Theory, especially queer theory, poststructuralism ecocriticism and feminism.
