Event description:
Chris Dowd is a Professor and Chair of the English Department at the University of New Haven. An educator, writer, and scholar, he specializes in Irish-American literature and culture, ethnic studies, narratology, and game studies. He is the author of The Construction of Irish Identity in American Literature (Routledge, 2010) and The Irish and the Origins of American Popular Culture (Routledge, 2018).
Professor Dowd will discuss Mark Twain’s presentation of Irishness in Huck Finn. Copies of his chapter “‘Sivilizing’ Irish America,” from The Construction of Irish Identity, will be available prior to the event (contact carol.morse@yale.edu).
