Event description:
Louis Menand is Lee Simpkins Family Professor of Arts and Sciences and Anne T. and Robert M. Bass Professor English at Harvard. He has been an editor at The New Republic (1986-1987), The New Yorker (1992-1993), and The New York Review of Books (1993-2001). He began contributing to The New Yorker in 1991 and has been a staff writer there since 2001. His books include The Metaphysical Club, which won the Pulitzer Prize in History, American Studies, and The Marketplace of Ideas. He published The Free World: Art and Thought in the Cold War in 2021. In 2016, he was awarded the National Humanities Medal by President Barack Obama.
