Join us for a day-long symposium celebrating the 20th anniversary of Alex Woloch’s The One vs. the Many: Minor Characters and the Space of the Protagonist in the Novel (Princeton, 2003), a landmark publication in the areas of character criticism, novel studies, and formalism. Drawing together prominent scholars from various disciplines, the symposium will explore the past and present significance of Woloch’s first, field-defining book, in addition to looking ahead to the next, as-yet-unwritten chapters of its existence.
