Theo Davis is professor of English at Northeastern University. She is the author of “Formalism, Experience, and the Making of American Literature in the Nineteenth Century” (2007) and “Ornamental Aesthetics: Thoreau, Dickinson, Whitman” (2016). Her articles have appeared in “Novel,” “ELH,” “J19,” and other journals.
