W. J. T. Mitchell is Gaylord Donnelley Distinguished Service Professor of English, Art History, and Cinema at the University of Chicago. His books include “Iconology,” “What Do Pictures Want?,” “Seeing Through Race,” and “Image Science.” He is the editor of the journal, “Critical Inquiry.”
