2011 Grad Wins National Writing Prize

Elisa Gonzalez ’11 lost the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Almost ten years later, her reflection on that failure has won her the Norman Mailer College Writing Award in creative nonfiction. In the interim, Elisa has grown from a homeschooled, self-taught speller into a Yale-educated poet and published essayist. Firmly unchanged is her love of and mastery over words.
