Frances Ferguson: “Mill on Bentham and Coleridge: An Episode in the History of Reading”

Monday, October 29 at 4:00, LC 317.  English Department Lecture Series presents: Frances Ferguson, Ann L. and Lawrence B. Buttenwieser professor at the University of Chicago. Her research interests include the eighteenth century and Romanticism as it altered over a period of a hundred years or so; the history of reading and practical criticism; the rise of mass education; the importance of Dissent in educated and educational thought in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. She is author of Pornography, The Theory: What Utilitarianism Did To Action and Solitude and the Sublime: Romanticism and the Aesthetics of Individuation.
