Michael Warner newly elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences

Michael Warner, Seymour H. Knox Professor of English and the current chair of the department, has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.  The American Academy was founded in 1780.  In the words of its charter, the “end and design of the institution is… to cultivate every art and science which may tend to advance the interest, honour, dignity, and happiness of a free, independent, and virtuous people.”  Other members of the Yale English faculty who have been elected members include Professors David Bromwich, Lawrence Manley, David Quint, Claude Rawson, Joseph Roach, and Ruth Yeazell.
