Event description: 

The Theory & Media Studies Colloquium continues its “State of the Field” series with a discussion of contemporary reading practices in the academy. Jonathan Kramnick and Caleb Smith will lead us through the defining debates and open questions regarding critical interpretation. We will pay particular attention to the recent calls for practices of “distant’ or “surface” reading and the continuing legacies of “symptomatic” and “close” reading.
